The gas station is not simply a structural icon representing speed mobility and power, but signifies the current debate surrounding the search for alternative energy sources. I see gas stations dotted along the landscape like future relics; soon to be abandoned or re-utilized for other purposes.
For Rural Projects Residency I built a replica of a gas station along a country road in upstate New York. During my stay I converted the piece into a solar powered out door cinema, which I ran during the summer months.
For the final stage of this project I advertised it for rent in the local newspaper.
